DUTCH CULTURE: GReeTings

WHen to say "HELLO"?
This is one of Dutch cultures which I like...GReeTinGs. They greet everyone ... strangers and young ones.
When you meet family members and friends you give THREE KISSES of course on the cheek and guys they shake hands.
They have differents way in saying "hello"
When you meet people on the street or anywhere during
daytime: You will say "DAG" (which means hello) to older people
"hallo" or "hoi" to people at your age
or "Goedemorgen"  (which means Good morning) to everyone.
night time: You will greet "Goedeavond" means Good evening.
When you get into a bus, the driver will greet you and so you do the same.
When you are in the store. The cashier greets you.
THEY ALWAYS SAY HELLO, GOOD MORNING OR GOOD EVENING.
THEY ALWAYS SAY GOODBYE
THEY ALWAYS SAY GOODNIGHT.
THEY ALWAYS GREET EACH OTHER.
Do you have any practices in your country which you think you must be proud of?

Her New Pair of Eyeglasses

My sister from Canada is visiting us for two weeks. She arrived last Monday. We picked her up at Schiphol Airport, the Netherlands. I have not seen her for three years. I hardly recognized her at the airport because she was wearing eyeglasses. She is in the middle forties, thus vision is becoming blurred. She has two pairs of  eyeglasses, for reading and the other one is for daily wear. She does not like her farsighted eyeglasses because they have no nose pads. She feels uncomfortable when she wears them because her eyelashes touch the glasses. She only wears them when her eyes hurt which is not good. She knows it very well that she has to wear them all the time. I told her why not buy a new pair. I know a good online store for eyeglasses. Zenni Optical is the best online store when it comes to eyeglasses. So, I showed her the website. She liked this one.

This frame is suitable for a multi-focal prescription.
She wants BIFOCAL and PROGRESSIVE eyeglasses.
Bifocal is a lens with two fields of vision separated by a line. Generally the top is designated for distance-vision or computer-distance and the bottom for near-vision work such as reading.
Progressive refers to the lens design which includes three fields of vision, without lines, and is sometimes referred to as a "no-line bifocal".
She does not need two pairs of eyeglasses anymore. She can save more because she only needs one pair. Having one pair of eyeglasses is very efficient, you do not need to change eyeglasses everytime you want to read. Since the eyeglasses at Zenni Optical are cheap, she can even buy another pair as reserve. They have eyeglasses as low as $8.00. You can add more features such as premium anti reflective coating, upgrade 1.61 to 1.67 index lenses and many more. Zenni Optical manufactures their own eyeglasses that is why the prices are very  reasonable. No middlemen and they tried to have a minimum advertising so that they can give affordable prices to their clients. Their products are cheap but of good quality.
For your new eyeglasses, I would strongly advise you to visit Zenni at Zenni Optical.com.

NeTherLands oLd ArchiTecTure... OudE KeRk in AmsTeRdaM

AMSTERDAM OUDE KERK
The Oude Kerk in Amsterdam was built in 1250 and is known as the oldest church in Amsterdam. Outside you can still see the various phases of the five centuries construction. The old church has received the title of European monuments and shelters the treasures such as the Vater-Müller organ in 1724/1738, several tombs of Dutch naval heroes and the tomb of the first spouse of  Rembrandt.
Vater-Müller organ
When you visit the Netherlands, you should see this old church. The architecture and its history are very interesting.

Online Games

I often play games online like card and other games. My children also play online games. They are allowed to play online games an hour a day. It is not fearsome to let your kids play online games, of course with your supervision. They may learn something  like how to use the computer. I sit behind the computer everyday, just surfing games for them and playing games. I found new game, casino. I remembered when we were in Las Vegas many years ago, every hotel has a casino. I could still remember the sound of  the coins from the slot machines. Vegas is really a nice place for relaxing and especially playing casino. You do not need to go to Vegas, casino is just right in your computer. I have found the best online casinos, if you want to play casino, you do not need to go out. You can download  casino software for free or instant play.

Wanna Hear a DuTch Song?

JE BENT ZO
van Jeroen van der Boom

Zeg ik nee, zeg jij ja.
En wil ik gaan slapen,
wil jij ineens graag en oh
Zeg ik stop ga jij toch,
Nog even door
En ik krijg geen gehoor.

Stroomt het bier uit de kraan,
wil jij naar huis.
Zeg ik later we gaan,
geef jij niet thuis .
Maar het kan me niet schelen, want

Jij bent zo
Ik heb je dan ** nooit anders gekend, en zo
zou ‘k jou 't liefste houden.

Dus verras me maar weer
Ook al doet het soms zeer

En is wit in de mode
draag jij zwart
Weet je 't zeker
dan nog volg jij je hart
Iedereen zou zich schamen, maar

Jij bent zo

Zou ‘k jou t liefste houden

REcenT PosT in BLog LisT

I have been trying to figure out the solution but until now unsolved. Some titles of the recent post in my blog list are not displayed. I want them to appear on my blog list.
When I open my blog, I go immediately to the chatbox, read the comments and check the recent comments box. Moreover I go to my blog list for recent items. When I find new interesting posts on my blog list, I visit those blog. I do not need to visit blogs which are not active for months. My other blog MY LIFE IN HOLLAND, the title of the recent item doesn't display on the blog list. You can see what I mean when you go down to my BLog List and look for My Life in HoLLand. The title of my recent post doesn't appear, other (blog) post titles do.
Does anyone know the solution to my problem?
HAVE A GREAT SUNDAY!

The Red Pencil

This morning I was happy to know that  the party we voted was the big winner in our place.
Yesterday was the election of our local officials. Me and my husband went to the voting precinct around 6:30 in the evening to vote. Election here is not computerized because they believed that using computers are unreliable. You may say that we are now in modern world that everything is computerized but here political leaders do not trust computers because they can be manipulated by computer experts. We used red pencil to mark the party we chose. That was my second time to vote. My first time to vote was on June 4, 2009 during the election of the delegation from our country to the European Parliament. The election happens every five years. In 2004 there were 27 seats and in 2009 was down to 25.
The evening before the election was a debate. Some parties did not come in the debate. Maybe they have said enough during their campaign so they did not need to appear on the television for debate. We watched the debate. One candidate gave weird remarks during the debate, I think this guy should find a good site for political debate and argument to give him much ideas how to argue. Candidates threw harsh words, rough answers, it was really a fight of words. It was unpleasant to watch them arguing in public. But anyway, that was a public debate, so politicians did their best to sell themselves. They did everything to defend themselves and convince the audience every word they said. We will just wait, if they really do what they said and promised to their supporters.

About this Blog

I make this blog for foreigners who will live in this country, THE NETHERLANDS. Foreigners who are engaged or married they have to learn a lot of things about their new home like the culture, architectures, landscape, government, dikes etc. Especially the Dutch language which is very important in their social life. It is very difficult if they cannot communicate with other people. Most people speak Dutch, only few speaks English.
For visitors and readers, this will give you an idea what this country is. This small country ranks no. 5 in the economic stability in EUROPE. Their architectures like palaces, castles, dikes, ports (air and sea) are amazing.
Their culture is very interesting.
